Terms and conditions
Accounts and paid scans are coming soon. These terms apply once they are available; until then we are testing with a small group.
Version 21 October 2026
Thanks for using CardGrade. These are the terms between you and us: for your account, your free scans and the scans you buy. We've kept them as short and clear as we could. Your statutory rights as a consumer always apply, even if something here seems to say otherwise.
1. Who we are#
CardGrade (cardgrade.nl) is a service of Loch Consultancy, sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak), trading as CardGrade, Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KVK) 82496501, VAT ID NL003691431B82. You can reach us at info@cardgrade.nl.
2. What CardGrade is, and what it isn't#
- CardGrade gives an estimate of the chance that a Pokémon card gets a certain grade from a grading company, based on photos you take. We measure the centering on your photos. Wear on corners, edges and surface is assessed by an AI model (currently from OpenAI).
- It is not an official grade and not a certificate. Only a grading company that handles the card can assign a grade.
- A photo doesn't show everything. Very fine scratches, dents, trimmed edges or fakes often can't be seen. Every report lists what we couldn't check.
- The chances are an estimate, not a guarantee. A grading company may decide differently, and sometimes will. A higher level gives the AI more to look at, but doesn't guarantee a more accurate result.
- We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by PSA, Beckett (BGS), CGC, TAG or The Pokémon Company. We only use their names to say what the estimate is about. Pokémon and related names are trademarks of their owners.
3. Your account#
- You need an account to scan. You sign in with a code by email or with Google.
- You must be at least 16 years old, or have the permission of a parent or guardian. If you're under 18, you may only buy credits with the permission of a parent or guardian.
- One account per person. Your account is personal: don't share it or sell it on. Keep your email secure; anyone with your login code can get into your account.
- You can always delete your account yourself (see article 11).
4. Levels, free scans and credits#
One scan is one card, front and back together.
Level I, the quick check
- What you photograph
- 1 photo per side
- How you get it
- Free: 10 scans per calendar month per account
Level II, the thorough check
- What you photograph
- 4 photos per side
- How you get it
- Pack of 25 scans for €14.99 (incl. VAT)
Level III, the expert check
- What you photograph
- up to 8 photos per side, including at most 2 extra close-ups per side that the AI asks for
- How you get it
- Pack of 25 scans for €24.99 (incl. VAT)
Free scans
- Your 10 free Level I scans per month don't carry over to the next month. They reset on the 1st of each month at 00:00 Dutch time.
- When you create your account you get one free Level III scan. It's valid for 12 months.
- If you report the real grade of a card you scanned with your account after it has been graded, you get 3 extra Level I scans, valid for 12 months. These rules apply:
- you report the grade at least 14 days after the scan;
- the scan itself wasn't paid for with bonus scans;
- you get the bonus once per scan, and at most 3 times per calendar month.
- We may check a report (for example the certificate number) and refuse or withdraw the bonus if a report isn't genuine.
- Free scans have no cash value and are not paid out. We may change the free amounts for the future; we'll announce that at least 30 days in advance.
Paid credits
- A pack you buy is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. After that, any credits you haven't used expire. You can see the expiry date in your account and in your confirmation email, and we'll send you a reminder about 30 days before.
- You can also use a Level III credit for a Level II scan, but not a Level II credit for Level III. Bought Level II and III credits aren't used for Level I.
- Within a level we use your free scans first (the monthly scans, the welcome scan, bonus scans) and then your bought credits, always the ones that expire first. For a Level II scan we use your Level II credits first and only then Level III credits.
- Credits are personal. You can't transfer them to another account or exchange them for money, except in the cases in articles 6, 7 and 11.
- A credit is only finally used when you receive a report. If the scan fails because of an error on our side, we can't read your photo or we can't find the card in it, you get your credit back automatically. A report with low certainty does cost a credit, because it still gives you information. For Level III, the second round with close-ups is part of the same scan. If you don't finish that second round within 20 minutes, you don't get the credit back: you could also have finished it without extra close-ups.
- To prevent abuse there's a maximum of 25 scans per day per account, and a maximum per internet connection.
5. Prices and payment#
- All prices are in euros and include VAT. You pay the same price in every EU country.
- You pay in advance, with iDEAL or another payment method we show at checkout, through our payment provider Mollie B.V. Your credits are in your account as soon as Mollie has confirmed the payment to us, usually within a minute.
- You'll get a confirmation by email with what you bought, the price, the expiry date and these terms.
- We may change our prices. Nothing changes for a pack you've already bought.
- If you reverse a payment after using the credits (for example through a chargeback with your bank), we remove the unused credits of that pack and block your account until it's resolved. If you want money back, please contact us first.
6. Cooling-off period (right of withdrawal)#
- You have 14 days after your purchase to withdraw from it without giving a reason.
- Because you want to use your scans straight away, we ask you at checkout whether you want us to start immediately. If you then withdraw within 14 days, you only pay for the scans you've already used (the pack price divided by 25, per scan used), and you get the rest back (Art. 6:230s(4) Dutch Civil Code).
- If you've used all the scans in the pack within the 14 days, you no longer have a right of withdrawal, because the service has then been fully performed (Art. 6:230p(d) Dutch Civil Code). This is also stated next to the box you tick.
- How to withdraw: with the model form below, or by emailing info@cardgrade.nl. You'll immediately get an acknowledgement by email.
- We refund you within 14 days of your withdrawal, using the same payment method you used. This costs you nothing extra.
7. If something goes wrong#
- You're entitled to a service that works as promised (Title 7.1A Dutch Civil Code). If a scan doesn't work as described in these terms and on the site, let us know. We'll put it right, for example by fixing the scan or giving your credit back. If that's not possible, you can use your statutory rights, such as a price reduction or termination.
- A grading company assessing your card differently from our estimate is not a defect: it's an estimate (article 2).
- Complaints? Email info@cardgrade.nl with your account's email address and what's wrong. We'll acknowledge your complaint within 3 working days and reply in substance within 14 days.
8. What you may and may not do#
You may use CardGrade for your own cards, or for cards you assess with the owner's permission. You may not:
- upload anything other than photos of a trading card, and certainly no photos of people, private information, or material that is illegal, offensive, or someone else's without permission;
- get around the limits, for example by creating multiple accounts, using disposable email addresses or switching IP address;
- use the site automatically or in bulk (bots, scripts, scrapers) without our written permission;
- try to disrupt, hack or overload the site or our providers;
- report grades that aren't genuine to get bonus scans;
- alter a report, or use it as if it were an official grade or certificate, for example in a sales listing.
If you break these rules, we may refuse scans, withdraw bonus scans or block your account temporarily or permanently (see article 11). We'll tell you why.
9. Your photos and your report#
- Your photos remain yours. By uploading them you let us use them for the scan you request, and send them to our AI provider for that purpose. Nothing more. We don't keep your photos. The privacy statement explains exactly what happens.
- You may keep, print and share your report. Please say that it's an AI estimate by CardGrade and not a grade.
- CardGrade's software, texts, illustrations and design belong to us. Please don't copy them without permission, apart from sharing your own report.
10. Availability and changes to the service#
- We do our best to keep the site working well and securely, but we can't promise it always will. Sometimes the site is busy or under maintenance, or our AI provider can't be reached.
- We may improve or adjust the service, for example by using a different AI model or changing the photo steps, if there's a good reason (such as better results, security, costs or the law). This costs you nothing extra. If a change has more than a minor negative impact on the scans you've bought, we'll tell you by email in advance. You may then terminate free of charge within 30 days and get the money for your unused paid credits back (Art. 7:50al Dutch Civil Code).
- If we shut CardGrade down, we'll announce it at least 3 months in advance by email and on the site, and refund your unused paid credits, pro rata to the price you paid.
11. Closing and blocking accounts#
- By you. You can delete your account at any time. Unused free scans then lapse. Unused paid credits also lapse, unless you withdraw within the cooling-off period (article 6) or we've agreed otherwise. We'll warn you about this before you delete your account.
- By us. In case of abuse or a serious breach of article 8, we may block or close your account. We'll tell you why, and you can object at info@cardgrade.nl. If we close your account, we refund your unused paid credits, unless it involves payment fraud.
- If we close your account without you having done anything wrong, we always refund your unused paid credits.
12. Liability#
- Whether you grade, sell or keep a card is your decision. CardGrade is a tool to help you decide. Take the limits in article 2 into account.
- We are not liable for loss caused by a card getting a different grade than estimated, or for costs you incur for grading, shipping or a sale. That follows from what CardGrade is: an estimate based on photos.
- Where we are liable, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the loss, with a minimum of €50.
- These limits don't apply in case of our intent or gross negligence, or where the law imposes liability that we may not limit.
13. Privacy#
How we handle your data is explained in the privacy statement.
14. Changes to these terms#
We may update these terms, for example when the service or the law changes. We'll tell you about important changes by email at least 30 days in advance. If you don't agree, you can delete your account and get your unused paid credits refunded, if you ask before the changes take effect. For packs you've already bought, we will never change the price, the number of scans or the validity to your disadvantage.
15. Law, complaints and disputes#
- These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection the mandatory consumer law of your own country gives you.
- If you have a complaint, please email us first (article 7). We'll work with you on a solution.
- We are not affiliated with a dispute resolution body.
- If we can't sort it out together, you can go to the court that has jurisdiction under the law. As a consumer, you can always go to the court where you live.
